This Japanese puzzle box requires 54 steps in order to open it! Whilst we are aware of some boxes that require even more steps this is certainly up there with the most complex examples of the traditional craft.

Featuring the beautiful Koyosegi marquetry the box is made entirely from wood. The box comes from the Hakone region of Japan where making boxes in this style dates back over 100 years.

Whilst often not overly complex to open this particular box with the amount of steps does get tricky! It is fairly easy to get ‘lost’ but if you are familiar with the mechanism of Japanese puzzle boxes you should be able to get there.

The box measures 184 x 128 x 94mm with an internal storage area of 130 x 109 x 67mm.

The solution is provided.
