The Word Wheel is a fun puzzle for those who enjoy scrabble or crosswords.
Based on a design from the late 19th century it consists of four wooden wheels each engraved with the letters A-Z. You can rotate the wheels and make the letters on each wheel line up in lots of different combinations.
The aim is to find a position in which a pair of four letter words are shown at the same time. For instance you can make LAWN while also having PEAR appear. Any words from a standard English dictionary or Scrabble dictionary are valid but abbreviations or proper nouns are not.
With more than 456,000 possible four letter word combinations you would think it might be quite easy to find a lot of pairs. However there are a total of 353 word pairs alongside 14 triple word possibilities and finding even just a few of these is an accomplishment.
A very fun puzzle that can provide hours of entertainment.
