Our most recent donation pushed our grove to over 1,000 trees with Trees for Life! As you may know here at Crux we donate 1% of all sales from our store to environmental charities. One of the main beneficiaries of this is Trees for Life, a Scottish organization focusing on rewilding the highlands.
We started giving to them back in 2021 and now, only four years later, we've crossed the 1,000 trees donated threshold. Like all things in life our initial donations seemed a little insignificant but over time with consistency you really can grow something meaningful (a feel a little parallel with Crux Puzzles itself here as I type). Unfortunately it's not quite as direct as our donations correlating with specific trees so we can't go and enjoy a walk through the newly planted woodland but in the long run we hope to go and visit the new pine forest that will hopefully stretch across a wide area. We'd encourage you to visit as well if you find yourself nearby and perhaps the young trees you see might have been funded by a puzzle you have purchased.
Hopefully we're running at a net positive for wood planted vs wood used in puzzles now!
The Lynx that were released near Aviemore this week caught my attention. An illegal release, two pairs were caught again but it definitely sparks your mind to think about what it would be like with some larger mammals roaming our environment once again. Personally I would love to see them back in the wild but understand it would cause problems for certain parts of the community. Perhaps as the Trees for Life continue their work and there is more suitable habitat for animals like Lynx to populate then we'll see some more movement on this.
As we go forward if you are involved in a UK based environmental charity that you think may share values with ourselves then please feel free to drop us an email as we are happy to explore new options for our donations.
